Water Reclamation from Primary Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Effluent by Membrane Distillation

In this work, Direct Contact Membrane Distillation (DCMD) was applied for the treatment of municipal wastewater collected from primary clarifier a plant (MWWTP). The water flux at 60℃ and 20℃ feed permeate side, respectively 51 kg/m2h in treating effluent. Meanwhile, electrical conductivity distillate good range 1.5 – 1.8 S/cm. Most representative parameters reuse (SS, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, total coliform, turbidity) effluent were completely removed MD module operation with PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)/ PP (polypropylene) bi-composite membrane. However, limited rejection rate observed only ammonia removal due to volatility ammonia. Pretreatment MWWTP by NaOCl showed 15% decline 28 hours continuous operation. Periodic membrane cleaning 3% HCl non-pretreated recovered initial up 80 - 95% yielded highly purified long-term system.
